A 36-year old Filipino, Herbert Chavez has undergone 19 surgeries in the past 16 years just so he could look like Superman. Chavez has had nose jobs, skin whitening, lip liposuction, jaw realignment, pec implants and even abdominal implants to become a real-life Clarke Kent after falling in love with the TV program aged five.

He has splashed around £4,400 on his obsession

He said: ‘I feel like a Superhero whenever I pull on the costume, but my mission is not to save the world but to help in my own small way and bring a smile to the faces of local children.
‘I don’t have any regrets at all. People come up to me in the street all the time and want their picture taken with me.
‘They are all really excited to see a real-life Superman in the Philippines.’

Premiere of THE LAST EAGLE SCOUT

In Orem, Utah, where we filmed the movie The Last Eagle Scout, we held an official premiere at the Scera Theater with cast and crew, friends and neighbors. It was a crowded house with about 400 in attendance.

I was very nervous because we had been through several different cuts of the film and mixed reviews from the previous showings we did last year. But after the final cut of the film, our audience tonight was overwhelmingly pleased at what they saw.

It was also great to see the actors and crew come after almost 4 years to the day we went into production. I could start naming names, but it wouldn't be fair to those I missed.

We started at 5:00 with a reception for cast and crew, where we had food. My awesome assistant, Dennissa, spend hours preparing sandwiches and fruit. My lovely wife, Stephanie, helped decorate the room we were in. Brian Kelly, of Shop J and L is handling our merchandising, and he was there with a table where he sold the DVD at a reduced rate as well as the shirts, hats, backpacks and the comic book. I also sell t-shirts with a logo of the previous project I produced for six years, Will It Blend.

Billionaire rocketeers duke it out for shuttle launch pad.

Now the mothballed launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, which dispatched Neil Armstrong and his crew on their historic Apollo 11 mission in 1969, is the focus of a battle of another sort, between two billionaire techies seeking to dominate a new era of private space flight.
NASA had hoped to turn over maintenance of the pad to a private company by October 1, saving itself $100,000 a month in maintenance costs, according to NASA spokeswoman Tracy Young.
Instead, fierce competition for control of the pad by digital entrepreneurs Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos has led to a government probe and congressional lobbying, delaying NASA's choice of a partner.
Musk's 11-year-old Space Exploration Technologies, known as SpaceX, already has two U.S. launch sites for its Falcon rockets at Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and California's Vandenberg Air Force bases.

Obama's Asia trip plans cut short as shutdown continues

President Barack Obama on Wednesday scrapped part of a long-planned trip to Asia and left the remainder of the trip in doubt as a U.S. government shutdown went into a second day with no end in sight to the funding battle in Congress that triggered it.

Obama scuttled two stops on a planned four-country tour and left visits to two other countries up in the air, according to White House statements.
The president told his counterparts in Malaysia and the Philippines he would not be able to meet them as planned and a White House official said the president is weighing whether to attend diplomatic summits in Indonesia and Brunei.
"We will continue to evaluate those trips based on how events develop throughout the course of the week," National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said.
Obama was originally due to leave the United States on Saturday and return a week later.
Not only must the president deal with the budget impasse and its effects, but he faces an even bigger crunch in Congress, which will put the United States at risk of defaulting on its debts if it does not raise the limit on U.S. public debt. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew has said the United States will exhaust its borrowing authority no later than October 17.
The fight between Obama's Democrats and the Republicans over the government's borrowing power is rapidly merging with the standoff over everyday funding, which has forced the first government shutdown in 17 years and sent hundreds of thousands of federal employees on unpaid leave.
The White House announcements about the Asia trip followed a fruitless day on Capitol Hill, with congressional Democrats and Republicans coming no closer to resolving their differences.
Obama accused Republicans of taking the government hostage to sabotage his signature healthcare law, the most ambitious U.S. social program in five decades, passed three years ago.
Republicans in the House of Representatives view the Affordable Care Act as a dangerous extension of government power, and have coupled their efforts to undermine it with continued efforts to block government funding. The Democratic-controlled Senate has repeatedly rejected those efforts.

Ukraine police fire tear gas to disperse protest in Kiev

Ukrainian police fired tear gas on Wednesday to disperse protesters trying to enter the city council building in the capital Kiev, police and opposition activists said.

No casualties were reported in the incident, which occurred when demonstrators began dismantling metal crowd barriers and trying to grab officers' helmets outside the building on Kiev's broad main boulevard.
Thousands of opposition protesters had gathered to rally against what they say is an illegitimate council session.
They say the mandate of the legislature, which is dominated by allies of President Viktor Yanukovich, ended in June and that a new election must be held.
Control of the council in Kiev, a city of 3 million, could give the government or its opponents an advantage in Ukraine's next presidential election in 2015, political analysts say.

The opposition said five protesters were detained in Wednesday's protest. Police did not give a figure but said those who were detained would be charged with hooliganism.

FG denies ordering customized gold iPhones

The Federal Government has reacted to the news that they ordered 53 gold gold-plated iPhone 5S for N682million. The report went viral after the CEO of Gold and Co., UK, Amjad Ali, told UK newspaper, The Independent, that our government ordered these phones from his firm as part of the memorabilia for the nation’s 53rd Independence anniversary on October 1, 2013. Jonathan's government has denied this and issued a statement. Find it below...
We consider the reports in a section of the media claiming that the Nigerian government had ordered customized gold iPhones from a Dubai-based company to mark the country’s 53rdindependence anniversary in October not only false and misleading, but utterly mischievous.
It is instructive that despite the refutation of the story by the company, which ought to have laid the mischief to rest, a number of politically-minded news media continue to insist on promoting the blatant falsehood. We deplore their antics as yet another attempt to use any trick or means possible to discredit President Jonathan’s well-meaning, hardworking and focused administration.
The company, Gold and Co., has since explained that what was written on Independent was different from what the CEO actually said. They explained that the phones were not ordered by the government but by a Nigerian who asked them to put the crest of the Nigerian govt on the back. Continue..

High iPhone price spooks investors, Apple shares drop in very low

Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Apple Inc, talks about the pricing of their new products at Apple Inc's media event in Cupertino, California September 10, 2013. REUTERS/Stephen Lam

(Reuters) - Apple Inc's new iPhones got panned by Wall Street on Wednesday as investors decried one model for being too costly for emerging markets such as china, and dismissed the other model as lacking enough game-changing features.

The world's most valuable technology company missed an opportunity to introduce a low-end smartphone to drive sales in Asia, where Samsung Electronics and China's Huawei have a wide lead over Apple, analysts say.
The plastic iPhone 5C unveiled on Tuesday will sell for 4,488 yuan ($730) in China, Apple said. That is more than the average monthly urban income in China, and about double the cost of mid-tier devices from Samsung and other vendors. The cheapest phones in China, made by the likes of Xiaomi, go for about $100 apiece.
"Investors were put off that Apple's price point didn't go low enough to attract a new market. It doesn't have the same range in price that Apple's competitors have," said Mark Luschini, chief investment strategist at Janney Montgomery Scott in Philadelphia, which manages about $58 billion in assets.
The high-end iPhone 5S disappointed Wall Street and revived fears that Apple's most innovative days may be behind it. The phone has a fingerprint scanner to improve security, but analysts said that was not likely to be enough to make the iPhone 5S a sure win in the crowded smartphone market.

Why President Obama Must Avoid 'Obamolly' In Syria

We might have a new word for folly if President Barack Obama gets Congressional approval and authorizes military strikes against Syria. Tactically, cruise missiles will do their job by blowing stuff up, but these raids will probably harm innocent civilians—maybe killing more than in the chemical attacks—and strategically, they might precipitate disastrous consequences across the region. Future generations might warn against committing an “Obamolly.”

iPhone 5S To Ring In The New With Expected Fingerprint Sensing Home Button

Tuesday will tell, but multiple rumors are pointing to a subtle design distinction for the forthcoming iPhone 5S. Along with new Gold and Graphite colors, the home button is expected have a new look signifying the inclusion of a fingerprint scanner within.
FOX News anchor (and now app developer) Clayton Morris first claimed, in an interview last month, that “sources” told him that the home button will “have a silver ring around it.” Speculation was raised by the inclusion in the invitation for Tuesday’s announcement of three silver-bordered rings along with the brightly-colored circles reminiscent of the iOS 7′s new palette. (I have inserted iPhone 5 home buttons into those rings in the spoof on Apple ‘s invitation above.) The features is also shown on questionable “leaked” photos of 5S packaging, but these could have been generated in response to Clayton as opposed to anything Apple is actually doing.

Herrera denies reaching agreement with Manchester United

Herrera denies reaching agreement with Manchester United
The 24-year-old admits he is flattered by the interest from the Premier League champions but insists he is happy to stay with his current club

Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera has revealed that there was never any agreement in place for him to join Manchester United.

The Premier League champions approached the Spanish club with an informal offer below the 24-year-old's €36 million buyout clause, however the bid was rejected.

Herrera, who admits he was flattered by United's interest, also claims that three lawyers - later reported to be 'imposters' - who were seen entering the offices of the Spanish football league [LFP] were not acting on his behalf.

"I reached no agreement with United," he told a press conference. "I knew that United were going to make an offer, but we all know the way the club acts [in these situations]. There are questions United must answer.

"I am proud they made an offer for me, and that Athletic wanted me [to stay]. I do not feel used by United, they made a formal offer. Athletic did not want to negotiate, I value that.

"I feel very flattered to see that one of the biggest clubs in the world like United made an offer for me. The lawyers who were at the LFP offices did not represent me. I do not know who they were.

"I don't discuss hypotheticals. I am just telling you how things were. At no moment did I speak with United. They had to pay the €36m clause and then seduce me more than Athletic. I never saw myself elsewhere."

Victor Moses excited to join Liverpool

Victor Moses excited to join Liverpool
The Nigeria international has left Stamford Bridge for Anfield Road on a year-long loan deal after falling down the pecking order in Jose Mourinho’s squad..

New Liverpool signee Victor Moses has expressed excitement at joining up with the Reds on transfer deadline day.
The Nigeria international made a late move to Anfield Road after falling down the pecking order at Chelsea since the return of Jose Mourinho to the side.
Moses will spend a year in Liverpool without the option of a permanent deal, something which shows he might still have a future at Stamford Bridge.
“Really excited to be joining Liverpool this season and can't wait to make my debut now,” Moses tweeted with a photo of him holding up the club’s jersey on Monday.
The 23-year-old is key to Nigeria’s plans for next year’s World Cup and will see this move to Liverpool as a means to guarantee playing time in preparation for Brazil.

Emmanuel Emenike glad to score after injury lay-off
The new Fenerbahce striker made his return after eight months and scored the opening goal against the Flames

Emmanuel Emenike got injured at the semi-final stage of the last Nations Cup and has not featured since that injury but he made his return to the Super Eagles on Saturday.
It was in a Group F final qualifying match against Malawi and he scored in the 45th minute to help his team to a 1-0 half-time lead.
“Definitely good to be back to the national team and to come back with a goal was very good,” Emenike said after the match.
“We knew we had to be relaxed as they needed to win and all we needed was a draw.”
Emenike also revealed that scoring at the end of the first half actually relaxed the players for the second half.
“After we scored we knew that Malawi would come out to try and get the equalizer and then we scored the second goal,” he added.
